Here we have it…
The first names of 2016’s SFTOC line-up are here! Acts playing across the 16 stages include former Race Horses frontman Meilyr Jones, one of the most hotly tipped bands of 2016, Pumarosa – think PJ Harvey meets The Knife. Also on the bill is the searing, scuzzy outsider techno of Leeds based Chrononautz, Laura Cannell, one of the UK’s finest exponents of modern folk and avant garde composition, welsh pop-sensation Gwenno Bristol’s heavyweight psychic voyagers Anthroprophh, French solo artist Terrine’s post-punk industrial guitar techno, Bella Union debutants exmagician, Full time Hobby stars The Magnetic North and a return for the much loved Charles Hayward, fresh from his reunion shows with This Heat.
New for this year are stages co-curated with Café Oto (at Islington Mill with Fat Out),The Quietus (at The Kings Arms with Grey Lantern) and Sways Records/The White Hotel, switching their Lower Salford homes for the banks of the River Irwell for the epic 12 hour party marathon entitled ‘Salford & Gomorrah‘ taking place upstairs at The Old Pint Pot.
Leading promoters (alongside the previously mentioned) hosting stages include Now Wave, Video Jam, Hey! Manchester, Tru Luv, Shambodie, Meat Free and The Beauty Witch.
Part festival, street party, exhibition, rave and immersive architectural tour, Sounds From The Other City sets up shop in fascinating places like Paul Heaton’s Kings Arms pub, Islington Mill’s pitch-perfect live room, the historic public meeting ground of Bexley Square, disused railway arches plus a SFTOC first at Salford Cathedral – more details coming soon.
What’s more, every SFTOC festival looks and feels totally different, which is just one reason why we sell almost every year. This years look and feel will be coming from the imagination of artist, illustrator and set designer himHallows.
This year at SFTOC 2016, there’s a new moon rising. Captained by himHallows, SFTOC 2016 is trawling the deep sea to bring ‘the New Occult’ to Chapel Street. For one day and one night the mystical and mythological will reign, so keep your third eye sharp and your transcendental mind open. Expect otherworldly characters to rise from the dark depths to take over Salford’s age old venues, with strange decoration and plenty of unexpected surprises. Join Captain’s masquerade ball at midnight, where nothing will be as it seems. But whatever you do, don’t forget your costume.
Never one to stick to convention for SFTOC, Bad Uncle is teaming up with IMPATV to transmit LIVE to the planet as part of this year’s festival. Together they’ll be broadcasting LIVE from a custom made TV studios for the full day, presenting a cavalcade of entertainment via a new channel: SFTOC.TV. Expect the best artists, musicians, performers and entertainers over day of live televisual pleasure.
