Elusive UK beat producer Melting has joined forces with multi-faceted interdisciplinary project Crow Versus Crow to release her debut record, the 9-track cassette/digital Download, Dusk. Utilising the sampler as a compositional tool, the tracks see Melting explore an outsider approach to hip-hop beat craft and bass music. Heavy sub and glitched-out edits remain anchored by woozy boom bap rhythms, giving the tracks a complex, ethereal, introspective feel.
Melting began producing in 2013. Developing a public profile through a series of low-key digital releases and rare, candlelit live shows, she began to build a small following, only to once again disappear into elusivity. After reaching out to Crow Versus Crow, communicating solely via email, the pair developed what would become the Dusk record.
For the physical release, visual artist Crow Versus Crow has produced accompanying artwork and sleeve design that, in its intricately designed minimalism, perfectly complements the emotional complexities of the Melting tracks.
The 9 tracks are repeated on both sides of a C65 plain grey, professionally duplicated cassette, wrapped in a 3 panel, full colour j-card in a clear plastic library case. This is then encased in a specifically designed 300gsm black card sleeve, with laser–etched and–cut details.
There cassette release comes in an edition of 50 copies.
Crow Versus Crow is an interdisciplinary project encompassing visual art and design; cult community radio show and podcast; live event promotion; and record label, presenting both digital and limited edition physical releases.
