CLUB BRENDA at ROVERS RETURN

Club Brenda returns to the Rovers this year with another handpicked selection of live music to make the Bank Holiday go with a swing.

Club Brenda was started in 1999 by Jayne Compton and Chloe Poems. Its first events were avant garde performance nights at the Star and Garter featuring the likes of Divine David, Tracey Elizabeth, Veba, Fiona Bowker and Rosie Lugosi. Since then Brenda has hosted nights at Islington Mill and now at its new home of Moho Live, bringing live music, performance art and DJ's all under one roof.

MAGIC ARM

Magic Arm is back at SFTOC giving us a taste of what we can expect from his eagerly anticipated album due out this year.

A lot's happened in the 12 months since we last saw Marc onstage at the Rovers.  This March he took to the stage in Texas at SXSW, he's supported the likes of Six Organs of Admittance and James Yorkston, plus picked up a wealth of high profile fans along the way, with Grizzly Bear, King Biscuit Time and The Earlies all singing his praises.

With his unique brand of sinister pop and psyche folk gems, you won't fail to be completely won over by the ever so slightly shambolic charm of Magic Arm's one man show.

TIM AND SAM'S TIM AND THE SAM BAND WITH TIM AND SAM

The Tim and Sam Band have managed over the course of the past 12 months to gain a following almost as big as their name.  With their delicate instrumental compositions blending elements of folk and pop, you'll find it hard to resist their summery soundscapes.

COWTOWN

Cowtown are no strangers to Manchester having made the short trip from Leeds to support the likes of Polysics and YACHT in recent months.

Expect plenty of cowbell and a hell of a lot of synth as this colourful Yorkshire four piece rock the Rovers with their great big melting pot of garage punk, synth pop and surf rock. For fans of Devo, Talking Heads, Polysics and definitely guaranteed to get the party started.

WAVE MACHINES

Art rock disco made on a Cash Converter keyboard and start-up drum kit.

Twelve months in a dock road warehouse making and breaking sounds.
Creating songs that are personal and universal. Songs of magic and
brotherhood. Exposing your weakness and falling in love, suicide and drug abuse and waking up from a decade of mistakes.

Wave Machines are based in Liverpool and began performing in January 2007. They will release their first single, "I Go I Go I Go" on Chess Club Records, June 23rd.

WARM WIDOW

For some reason, bands specialising in good old fashioned punk rock have been few and far between in Manchester of late, so breathe a sigh of relief as Warm Widow are here at last.  With dischordant scuzzy guitars and clattering drums, Warm Widow provide the perfect antidote to those who long for the days when Sonic Youth, The Fall and Wire were kings.
