Paradox
Paradox is a raucous evening designed for the lyrically-influenced and banging sort of figure. It specialises in giving a platform to alternative writers, lyricists and musicians reading their written work aloud. Hosted by local Manchester poet Lauren Bolger, Paradox fuses the spoken word of both established and up and coming writers with the vocal cream of the Manchester music scene. Our plans for this year’s Sounds from the Other City festival are to invade The Oxford Pub with free flowers and fairy lights all for the sake of some grimy spoken word which will be occurring around the fireplace. So stand, sit on a chair or floor and watch the gaff glow. Oh yes and all entrees will be given a flower on entry, it’s just better that way.

Neil Bell
Experimental sonic poet telling stories of the subconscious city.
Mike Garry
Deemed an excellent manc street poet by Shaun Ryder, his work celebrates the beautiful ugliness of the city. His heroes are the underdogs and lost souls who wander the streets searching for answers.
Neil Campbell
Salt published novelist and poet and editor of Lamport Court magazine, recent poetry pamphlet Birds garnered great reviews: 'The great thing about this collection is that Campbell brings his prose toolbox to construct a verse style that is fresh and interesting.' Alec Newman.
Chris Killen
Young novelist, author of The Bird Room, reads fresh innovative prose with a comic twist: 'sparely written, cool, jaunty, darkly comic with an ear for voice and mannar' The Guardian.
Frazer King
Lyrically fresh and musically frenetic 'Their sound is almost impossible to label, taking in a Pogues-like mix of disarray and beauty, a Shack-esque ear for melody and a Bad Seeds intensity (with some added vigorous skiffle for good measure)' City Life
Dee Campbell
Vocalist from the band Help Stamp Out Loneliness, performing her own poetry and lyrics.

Socrates Adams
Florou
Subversive comic novelist exploring the sadness and hilarity of life.
The
Scrotes
They are visually engaging and construct lyrical images only to knock them down within a sentence... it must be a nightmare to capture the vibrancy of a live gig on a disc.' BBC Manchester.
Uncle
Meat and The Highway Children
Highly enjoyable, psychedelic mayhem, with excellent vocals and moments of lyrical brilliance.
Lauren Bolger
Hosts and organises Manchester's freshest poetry night, Paradox. Her poetry has been described as 'beautifully lyrical language, in the form of inner murmurs of city life and landscape and the people that live and act within it' Curation
Onions
'The irrepressible Onions slap on more harmonies and rattled beat guitars than the Beatles at a 60's garage psyche convention. Don't call them quirky, but do compare them to maybe Sparks fettling around with the new sound of Irwell.' Manchester Music
Fiona Brehony
Refreshing voice and talented performer, experimenting with the language and characters of the everyday and splicing them into surrealist and at the heart, poetic monologues.
Easter
Playing a stripped down set, a haunting mix of Red House Painters, Bruce Springsteen and Godspeed: 'Understated, glorious and heart achingly beautiful.' The Stool Pigeon
